EGIL GUDMUND
Egil Gudmund (Build Page)
Physical Description: Egil is built like an ogre. Barrel chested, with broad shoulders and an ample belly. While in excellent shape, he is not a spry man and knows that life can be short and cruel, so he takes the opportunity to indulge in large meals washed down with plenty of ale whenever he can. His back is covered in a criss-cross of scar tissue, testament to his time spent under the slavers' lash.
Background:
- Uthgart Barbarian of the Great Worm tribe. Though still maintaining their proud warrior heritage the tribe had begun to settle down to what the rest of Toril would regard as a 'normal' life and began on the road towards agriculture. Then, the Thayans came. The tribe fought bravely, and ferociously, leaving dead Thayans scattered about the battlefield. But their efforts were in vain and the Thayans superior numbers told. Many Uthgart were killed, and the rest were dragged off in chains, their heads bowed but their spirits unbroken.
- Feels deep shame in not having died in defence of his fellows. Taken to Thay as a slave.
- While there taken under the wing of a Rashemi Berzerker who teaches the youngster to channel the beast within. The Rashemi Berzerker leads a successful slave uprising, with our hero taking up a guard’s Falchion in the initial struggle and then helping to lead his fellow slaves to freedom.
- Slaves then scatter to ground, splitting into small groups to avoid recapture. He ultimately slipped across the border and made his way to Mulholrand, where he fell in with current party/merc group and engaged in all sorts of high jinks.
Personality: Fiercely independent and strong willed, naturally suspicious of authority figures. However, once earned his loyalty is absolutely unflinching. Having felt the taste of the slavers' lash is totally opposed to slavery and anything similar (e.g. enchantment spells, dominated thralls, etc) and will leap at any chance to rescue any kind of slave or unjustly held prisoner. To his friends and comrades he is a light-hearted companion, fond of ale, tall tales and hearty laughter, but is also capable of bouts of towering rage and fury when provoked.
Egil views the current mercenary band as a kind of "pseudo-tribe", and having failed (in his mind) his first tribe he is damn sure it won't happen again. Therefore he puts himself between physical harm and his party members without hesitation, leaping at any who attempt to harm them (Cometary Collision feat). Although appreciative of the power of magic, he has a tendency to judge people based on physical might and stature (a legacy of his cultural upbringing where strength was everything). Consequently, he is doubly protective of any physically weak members of the party (e.g. casters), and triply protective of any gnomes/halflings/etc, who he can't help but view as if they are children.
