(#1)Failed Shadow Gate - Magical Location (Laeric's Shadow Darkens)

A failed attempt in creting a gate to the plane of shadow within the false temple of Mystra. Those who apss through the gate briefly pass to the plane of shadow but run the risk of near certain death when doing so. Even those who survive come away with the taint of shadow.

 

location Activation: A character must walk through the curtain of shadow between the two pillars. A Failed Shadow Gate can affect up to two seperate creatures a day.

Special Ability: When a character passes through the gate, he briefly enters the plane of shadow for only a moment. Long enough however for the seed of shadow to become implanted in the character. By the time the character reaches the opposite side the change is already under way.The character feels a film of cold flow over him. He can attempt to resist the effect (Will DC20). Those who resist and succeed throw off all further effects and come to no harm, but gain no benefit.

Those whio leave themselves open, or fail their saving throw are subsumed by shadow. This effect either grants the chracter the dark template, which he can call upon 1/day, or kills him through incomplete subsumption. Those who die in this fashion have their skin and equipment mist away in a stream of fleeting shadow.

 

(#2) Disc of Secrets

This featureless silver disc hangs from a simple silver chain.

 

A Disc of Secrets functions as a holy symbol when wielded by a cleric of Shar, serving as the proper divine focus for the cleric's spells and channeling negative energy to rebuke undead. The ionly magical function of a Disc of Secrets is to conceal its identity. This disguise is a shadow (partially real) illusion effect, and cannot be disbelieved.
