While Wumble was in the Marsember Town Guard, he served primarily in the Noble District. He served there for nearly thirty years, so he had become a regular face in the crowd, most people knew him. They did not necessarily like him, as he was as quick to report a noble for breaking a law as he was a ruffian. Even still, they knew Wumble to be honest and forthright, which was something of a novelty in that town.

One noble in particular took a liking to Wumble. Herldin Addgar, another gnome, admired the methodical way that Wumble tracked down and captured the thieves that broke into his manor home. Even moreso, Wumble returned everything that the thieves had stolen: many guardsmen would have kept some of it for themselves and claimed that the thieves had sold it. As a reward, Herldin gave Wumble a pair of matched shortswords: Slicer and Dicer.

The swords themselves are clearly finely-wrought blades, very sharp and servicable. Beyond that, though, they are not ostentatious or even overly fancy. The blades are a dullish gray, not at all shiny. Even still, they seem to have an untapped potential that is waiting to be uncovered. Wumble has discovered that by practicing with them, and pouring his life energy into them, he is able to use them with great effectiveness.

While Slicer and Dicer may look like twins, their personality is anything but. Slicer has the feel of a stalking lurker, prefering its owner to hide and attack only when absolutely necessary, and even then from the shadows. Dicer, on the other hand, has the feel of a rabid predator, prefering its owner to pounce and fight whenever possible. Anyone wielding Dicer is slightly distracted by its constant thirst for blood, and anyone wielding Slicer is a little less likely to want to enter combat.

NOTES:

  • Slicer uses table 4-5 for penalties, and Dicer uses 4-2, the fort save penalty includes the all saves penalty already.
  • Total Ritual costs: 3,800 / 25,700 / 80,500
  • Sneak attack only applies to the weapon being used, and is not cumulative
  • Both Slicer and Dicer are intelligent, with an LN alignment. Their mental abilities are INT 13, WIS 10, CHA 13, communicate with Wumble empathically and they have 60' vision and hearing. Both have an ego score of 4. Dicer tries to push Wumble into combat, and Slicer tries to keep him out of combat. Neither sword particularly likes the other, but they do not hate each other, either. Instead, they have an antagonistic-sibling relationship: both trying to one-up the other.
